About the treatment

What is deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage is a more focused treatment for people who prefer firmer pressure or have areas that feel persistently tight. Rather than treating every part of the body in the same way, the therapist can spend time on the muscles and movement patterns that matter most to you.

Who it may suit

  • Recurring muscular tightness or stubborn knots
  • A stiff back, neck or shoulders after work or travel
  • Tired muscles following exercise
  • People who prefer purposeful, firmer pressure

What happens in a session

  • A short conversation about the areas you want to focus on
  • Pressure adjusted throughout the session to stay within your comfort
  • Slow strokes, compression and targeted work on tense areas
  • Simple aftercare guidance, which may include hydration and gentle movement

Choosing your session length

Deep tissue massage is usually available in 30, 60, 90 or 120 min. Longer sessions allow more time for the same deep tissue treatment to cover connected areas and spend longer on stubborn tension.

30 min

Time for focused deep tissue work on one or two priority areas, such as the back, neck or shoulders.

60 min

Enough time to work across several related areas while keeping the treatment focused on deeper muscular tension.

90 min

A longer deep tissue massage with extra time for connected areas and the places holding the most tension.

120 min

The most extended deep tissue option, allowing the therapist to vary the pace and revisit priority areas.

Session lengths are confirmed as you book. Availability can vary by clinic, therapist and time of day.

Your comfort comes first

Every session should be adapted to you. Share relevant health information, say what you want from the appointment and speak up about pressure or positioning at any point.

Please note: Deep tissue massage is not a substitute for diagnosis or medical treatment. If pain is new, severe, unexplained or linked to an injury, seek appropriate medical advice first.

Deep tissue massage questions

Does deep tissue massage hurt?

It usually feels firmer and more intense than a relaxation massage, but it should never feel sharp or intolerable. Your therapist adjusts the pressure as they go, so say something the moment it stops feeling productive.

How long is a session?

You can choose 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes as you book. Thirty minutes suits focused work on one or two areas; longer appointments allow the same deep tissue treatment to cover more related areas and spend longer on stubborn tension.

How is it different from a sports massage?

Deep tissue work is about sustained pressure into deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, usually for long-held tension. Sports massage is organised around training and recovery, and often includes movement and stretching alongside the hands-on work.

What should I do afterwards?

Drink water, keep moving gently, and go easy on heavy training for the rest of the day if an area feels tender. Some short-lived tenderness after focused work is normal and usually settles within a day or two.
