Deep Tissue Massage

Our Deep Tissue massage focuses on releasing muscle tension and restoring elasticity. It can target knots and tackle any aches and pains that are making it difficult for you to relax.
Muscle tension is usually caused by fibrous bands of tissue called adhesions, which limit the movement of your muscles, tendons and ligaments. These rigid adhesions can cause pain, inflammation and other problems, but they can be broken down through Deep Tissue massage to restore normal movement and flexibility. The deepest layers of muscle and connective tissue are realigned, releasing tension, removing toxins, and improving your circulation.

The Treatment

During a Deep Tissue massage, your therapist will use different parts of his or her hands to target areas of your body where you are feeling pain or tension. You may feel your therapist working in several different ways to release the knots in your muscles, using the fingertips, knuckles, the whole hands, or even the forearms or elbows. The therapist will work a selection of different oils into your body using strokes that feel slower and deeper than those of a classic massage. He or she will apply friction across the grain of the muscles to release tension and drive out toxins. The effect will be best if your muscles are relaxed, and your therapist may ask you to breathe deeply to help them to reach the deeper musculature.
The Deep Tissue treatment feels different to a classic massage. You may find it a little uncomfortable at first, but you can let your therapist know if you would like them to adjust the pressure. You should always tell the therapist if you feel any pain during the treatment. You might also feel a little bit stiff or sore after the massage, but this is not unusual. It should go away within a couple of days, leaving you feeling more supple and relaxed.
